Sonunda mesele ormanın kıralı aslana anlatılmış. Aslan, kurdu bir ay hapisle cezalandırmış. Eşeği serbest bırakmış. Kurt aslanın yanına yaklaşıp sormuş:
Kurt: Gerçekten otları sarı mı görüyorsun?
Aslan: Hayır, çimler yeşil.
Kurt: O halde neden beni bir ay hapse mahkûm ettin?
Aslan: Çünkü eşekle tartıştın!
